Symposium. The Original in its Metamorphoses – L’original en ses métamorphoses

On April 22 and 23, 2022, CLIV members affiliated to Ghent University, in collaboration with VUB, will host the symposium The Original in its Metamorphoses. Tracing the Translator in the Long Eighteenth Century (1660-1830) – L’original en ses métamorphoses. Les traces du traducteur dans le long dix-huitième siècle (1660-1830). The symposium will take place at De Krook (room De Blauwe Vogel).

Translator archives in the spotlight

In collaboration with Letterenhuis, CLIV is organizing a two-part event on translator archives. During a webinar on 25 February 2022, literary translators will talk about their own documentation process and archive and there will be lectures on the collection, preservation, accessibility and research of translator archives in Flanders and the Netherlands. In a follow-up workshop on May 6 and May 23 at the Letterenhuis in Antwerp, we will focus on archival care for literary translator archives.

Translation and World Literature: A Belgian Perspective

On December 13 & 14, the symposium Translation and World Literature: A Belgian Perspective will take place, an interuniversity initiative (UAntwerpen, KU Leuven & VUB). The goal is to bring together researchers working on similar themes at different universities and/or research centers for an exchange of ideas and projects, in order to create a longer-term collaboration.

Desde el 13 hasta el 15 de junio de 2022, se organiza el coloquio internacional Voces silenciadas en la Historia: traducción, género y (auto)censura en la Universidad de Tours. Conversation with Translator Aai Prins (KU Leuven)

On Thursday, October 28, 2021, the Center for Russian Studies (KU Leuven) welcomes Aai Prins, award-winning literary translator from Russian. She translated dozens of books, including classics such as Gogol, Chekhov, Bulgakov and Pasternak. In 2019 she won the Dutch Foundation for Literature Translation Award, not only for the high quality of her translations, but also for her commitment as a cultural ambassador. During the conversation with Aai Prins, moderator Pieter Boulogne, lecturer in Russian literature at KU Leuven, will discuss her vision of translation and mediatorial role as a translator, culture-specific elements and the evolving translation culture.
