Elies Smeyers

Elies Smeyers started her doctoral research in October 2014 in a joint-PhD programme supervised by Stéphanie Vanasten (Université catholique de Louvain) and Désirée Schyns (Ghent University). Her research focuses on French translations of theatre texts by Hugo Claus, and will also consider their impact on the French reception of the authorial image and the place of translators in this successful cultural transfer. After completing her Master in Western literature (KU Leuven), she obtained a postgraduate degree on the transnational programme of literary translation at KU Leuven-campus Antwerp and Utrecht University. Elies was awarded the Flemish talent scholarship in literary translation and holds a strong interest in both translation theory and the practice of translation.
