Jo De Brie is a doctoral researcher at the department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication (Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Ghent University) and is a member of the TRACE research group. She obtained a master in political science and a master in translation (Dutch, English and Spanish), and previously gained professional experience at the European Commission (DGT) and the Flemish Parliament.
Her research is supervised by prof. dr. Bram Lambrecht and concerns Dutch translations of English crime stories that were published in serial form (as feuilletons) in Flemish newspapers between 1900 and 1940. The main focus is on the normative function of these stories, which will be studied in relation to the ideological background of the newspapers included in the research corpus.
