Gys-Walt Van Egdom

Gys-Walt defended his PhD dissertation “Naar een ethiek van de literaire vertaling” [trans. Toward an Ethics of Literary Translation] at the VUB in June 2015. His present research covers three fields: translation, literature and ethics. It is his aim to observe and approach these areas of research from fundamental yet innovative angles. He also focuses on (the translation of) experimental literature, tries to throw light on the creative input of (literary and non-literary) translators, marks the difference between a translation poetics and the translator’s poetics, challenges the dominant cultural – mainly postcolonial – approaches to literature and translation, and deals with translation competence and competence acquisition.
