Matías Adam-Barrios

Matías Adam-Barrios (Caracas, 1989) is a doctoral fellow at the Department of Translation, Interpreting, and Communication at Ghent University, where he is affiliated with the research group TRACE. He holds a BA in Literary Studies (University of Barcelona), an MA in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies (Autonomous University of Barcelona), and an MSc in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies (KU Leuven).

His doctoral research interrogates the reception and the ideological dimension embedded in edited translations of scientific expedition narratives by European explorers in the Orinoco basin in post-independence Venezuela.

Before joining TRACE, Matías worked professionally with human rights advocacy organizations in Spain specializing in migrant and refugee reception and social inclusion rights. He has additional work experience as a language professional in international cooperation, higher education, and the creative industries.
