Marieke Frenkel is working on a literary comparative and translational study on interculturalism in the work of Cees Nooteboom. This PhD project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Désirée Schyns (UGent) aims to answer the question how translators deal with Nooteboom’s fascination for the foreign and how the source text’s interculturalism is rendered in various target cultures.
Marieke Frenkel has completed her studies Dutch Language and Literature and Comparative Literature in Utrecht and German Philology in Bern and afterwards she obtained a Spezialising Master’s degree in Comparative Literature at Lausanne University. She lives in Switzerland, where she works as a free-lance translator. From 2000 until 2014 she was co-president of the Association suisse Isabelle de Charrière.
